Bear Dance Hemp started in 2019 as a small retail shop with a simple goal: Create a place where people could ask honest questions about cannabis.

No hype.
No temporary trends.
No confusion.

Just real information and products we actually trusted.

What We Built

Over the next 6 (almost 7) years, Bear Dance became more than a store.

It became a place for conversations.

We helped people navigate CBD, THC, and plant medicine in a way that felt approachable, grounded, and real — whether they were brand new or had been around cannabis for years.

We built a business rooted in:

• education
• transparency
• trust
• and not cutting corners, even when it would’ve been easier

And we did it while navigating one of the most inconsistent and confusing regulatory environments in the country.

Why We Stepped Away from Retail

In Spring of 2026, we made the decision to step away from retail.

Not because we stopped caring — but because the reality of operating a compliant cannabis business in Virginia made it increasingly difficult to continue in a sustainable way.

We put a lot into Bear Dance — personally, financially, and emotionally — and we’re incredibly proud of what we built.

But at a certain point, continuing to operate the shop didn’t align with the reality of the industry anymore.

What Bear Dance Is Now

Bear Dance isn’t a retail shop anymore.

It’s a place for cannabis education, honest conversations, and real-world insight into an industry that most people don’t fully understand.

We’ve spent years helping people navigate this space face-to-face. Now we’re taking that same knowledge and making it more accessible through:

• 1:1 consultations
• product guidance and education
• business-to-business consulting
• industry insight and commentary

We’re still very much part of this industry — just in a different way.

Bear Dance is run by Sarah and Chris — partners in business and in life.

Sarah is the founder of Gray Matters Design, a creative studio focused on branding, websites, and strategy for small businesses. She brings a strong focus on communication, positioning, and helping ideas make sense.

Chris brings a big-picture perspective, trend awareness, and a deep understanding of how culture, business, and cannabis intersect.

Together, we built Bear Dance from the ground up — and now we’re carrying that experience into what comes next.

What Comes Next

We’re not done.

In fact, we plan on becoming even more of a problem for the dishonest and unethical powers that be.

We’re just not doing retail anymore.

We’re continuing to show up through education, consulting, and honest conversations about cannabis — especially here in Virginia, where things are still evolving in real time.
